Puddle or Splits?

There’s 2 kinds of kids in this world: those who jump and splash in puddles, and those who try to avoid puddles at all costs.

I took one student off the van this morning.  He’s super small and super cute.  I put him down on the ground, which happens to be in the middle of a giant puddle.  He apparently doesn’t like puddles.

I learn this when I turn around again and he’s almost in the splits position across the puddle so that his feet aren’t in the middle of the puddle where I left him.  He had rain boots on, it would have been ok for him to be in that puddle.

Kids say the darndest things…

My students know the rules: you eat your healthy snack first, then you can have your treats.

One kid opens her Lucky Charms bar and stares at me (because she knows the rules).  I say, “You can’t have that now”.  She says, “Yes I can it’s already opened….too bad!”  So I take it from  her and say “Too bad for you!  Eat your healthy stuff first!” Gotcha kid!!!

Another student is obsessed with recycling and telling you which bin items go into.  He’s big on the Green Bin or as he calls it the ‘Organic Bin’.  Whenever he’s putting something into the Green Bin he says “I will organic it”.

One of the girls started wearing deodorant.  Her way of telling me is by saying, “Smell my armpits”.  I say “Ummmmmm no thanks!”  She replies, “I’m wearing deodorant!  Just smell it okkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!”  Me, “Yeah still no……” LOL

Not Old – Vintage or Retro

On fun Friday’s the kids get to watch a show, usually SpongeBob or Peppa Pig.

I had an older teacher working with the kids talking to them about what they were going to be doing that day. One mentions that we’ll probably watch SpongeBob.

The conversation went like this:

Kid: We’ll probably watch SpongeBob

Teacher: What’s that?

Kid: It’s a show. We’re young and you’re …… vintage or retro that’s why you don’t know what it is.

Me: At least he didn’t call you old! Hahaha

Same Wavelength

One of my students was very angry so I told her to go to the calm down room. She starts throwing/ripping the few things that are in that room.

I’m outside the door talking to my coworker saying ”she’ll be picking that up later”. The kid says, “I will not be picking that up”! How did she even hear me!?!? (Or we’re on the same wavelength and she just knew I’d be saying that to her….)

So I continue to watch her from outside the room. She says,

“I’m drawing on the floor…” I respond, “Cool you’ll clean that up too”! She looks at me in shock and starts to lick her fingers and try to clean up the crayon she had used on the floor.

She knows the drill and stopped making a mess because in the end, that’s all on her to clean it up! 😉

Single Ladies

My coworker and I were having a conversation about her being single. I thought it would be funny to start singing ‘Single Ladies’ to her.

The only part I could remember was obviously “all my single ladies, all my single ladies”. So I sing it (in my amazing singing voice) and one of my kids joins in with a huge smile on her face with “all my single ladies, all my single ladies”.

Sometimes random sing offs happen on the job!

Pink Day

Today is Pink Day to end bullying. Most of the kids and staff at my school are wearing pink and it’s so amazing to see!!!

We had an assembly about Pink Day to explain to all the students what the day is for and why we all wear pink.

One of my kids who does not do well in assembly’s was freaking amazing! She sat through the entire thing with almost no talking except at the end. One student was ending the assembly when my kid says, “that kid has a funny voice”. To which I replied …. “ummmm that’s bullying”. It was pretty funny…
